Exclusive: CBI questions for Amit Shah
Ahmedabad: Amit Shah will be interrogated by the CBI for the first time today in connection with the killing of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausarbi.

NDTV has exclusive access to the questions that the CBI is likely to ask Shah during his interrogation. They are:

  • Do you know Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed by the Gujarat Police?

  • Was the killing sanctioned by you?

  • If not, when and how did you learn about his killing?

  • How was Sohrabuddin's wife Kausar killed?

  • Do you know Kausar was in police custody when Sohrabuddin was killed?

  • Who killed Kausar and how?

In his mid-30s, Sohrabuddin Sheikh from Jharnia Village in Madhya Pradesh was an established criminal in Udaipur, Ahmedabad and Ujjain.

Some say, he was a police informer who turned rogue. Others say Sohrabuddin was an extortionist who had angered influential people, in the builder lobby in Gujarat and the marble lobby in Rajasthan.

What's not in dispute: Sohrabuddin was travelling with his wife Kauser from Hyderabad to Sangli. Mid-way, the Anti-Terror Squad of the Gujarat police stopped the bus and took them away.

Three days later, a police team led by the ATS Chief DG Vanzara killed Sohrabuddin outside Ahmedabad, claiming he was a terrorist trying to attack Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Then Kausar went missing.

Barely a year later Tulsiram Prajapati, Sohrabuddin's partner in crime, was also killed by the Gujarat police in an encounter in Banaskantha. Investigations reveal he knew about the Sohrabuddin encounter.

Since then, it has been established that policemen of three states: Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat carried out the killings at the behest of political bosses, to silence men who knew too much.

Now CBI has proof that Shah is a key player in the case.

A crucial evidence is a report by a witness that NDTV has access to. Police guard NV Chauhan claims he was present when Amit Shah called Vanzara and ordered him to kill Kausar.

He says: ATS Chief DG Vanzara told Pandiyan sir that it was call from the home minister who feels it is dangerous to let Kausar live. So we need to eliminate her in a way her remains are not found.

Call data available with the CBI also indicate that Shah was in touch with the accused cops during Sohrabuddin and Prajapati's deaths.

Everybody is now waiting for Amit Shah's answers.
