Explosives recovered in J&K ahead of Republic Day

Baramulla: A huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives has been recovered ahead of January 26 in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Jammu is on high alert ahead of Republic Day after reports of specific intelligence inputs of a militant strike.

"There are inputs that the militants would try and disturb the peace, we have increased the number of checking points in the city and the jawans have been put on an alert at the checking points," said Ashok Gupta, IG Police, Jammu.

With the graph of infiltration suddenly shooting up, this time, the threat from militants seems even more real.

BSF jawans searched the border areas for possible infiltrators. It was here in the Abdullian area of R S Pura sector that the border fence was cut. Not taking any chances, the Border Security Force (BSF) has brought in additional forces to help conduct searches.

"A few strands of border fence have been damaged during last night, this is the fencing which is under construction and BSF has not yet taken over the fencing," said J B Sanghwan, DIG, BSF.
