Mumbai:
Special Inspector General Sukhwinder Singh of Konkan range will submit his report to the state's Director General of Police today on the case involving the two girls from Palghar in Maharashtra who were arrested and then released on bail for protesting the closure of shops in the wake of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's death on Facebook.
The report is expected to answer two questions: the grounds for arrest of the two girls, and the connection, if any, of the vandalism acts, allegedly by Shiv Sena activists, at the hospital of one of the girls' uncle.
The two girls were arrested after a Shiv Sena leader lodged a complaint against them following a comment on one of the girls' Facebook page protesting the closure of shops in the wake of Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's death. The other girl had 'liked' the comment.
The girl's Facebook status read: "People like Thackeray are born and die daily and one should not observe a bandh for that". A local Shiv Sena leader Bhushan Sankhe lodged a complaint in the Palghar police station in Thane district. The two girls were soon booked under section 295A (hurting the religious sentiment of others) and were ordered by court to serve 14 days in jail. Hours later, they were allowed out on bail after paying two bonds of Rs. 15,000 each.

A clinic owned by the uncle of one of the girls' was ransacked, allegedly by a group of 30 to 40 Shiv Sena workers. 10 people were arrested for the attack but were soon released on bail after Rs 7,500 was paid by each as surety.
Following a furore over the girls' arrest, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had promised "strict action" against police personnel, if they were found guilty in the probe.
