Hyderabad: Rayeesuddin was among the nearly one hundred youth picked up after the twin blasts in Hyderabad in August 2007 as a terror suspect and was subsequently acquitted after spending time in jail.
Rayees says Aseemanand's version of a change of heart leading to his confession is too simplistic to be taken at face value.
"Aseemanand may have been impressed with Kaleem but there seems to be some thinking behind it. He has become a prosecution witness and gets that benefit. He has also done that to divert attention from the local RSS support that he would have got. That is what it seems like to us, '' said Rayeesuddin.
Civil liberties groups say those wrongly accused of terror must be compensated, cases against them withdrawn and an uncondiitonal public apology should be made by the authorities.
Activists say the flip-flop by investigating agencies on who is the accused is causing a crisis in public confidence in the law-enforcement machinery. The public needs to be assured that investigating agencies follow the due process of law and also a fair, free and scientific investigation procedure.
