Howrah: In a departure from previous years, West Bengal celebrated Holi over two days this year. Dol was celebrated on Wednesday along with Holi on Thursday. However, what perhaps stood out was the distinct political colour added to the festival of colours.

Actress Rupa Ganguly visited a Holi celebration venue in an attempt to connect with members of her constituency in Howrah. The BJP's Howrah (North) candidate told NDTV, "I am not here to ask anyone for votes. I never do that. I am here to share the love with my people."

When asked about the response she got, Rupa Ganguly said, "It's there for you to see," as she jostled with the crowd and fans who were waiting to greet her.

Amongst the crowd, the opinion was divided. A young woman told NDTV, "Politicians should not politicise these festivals. They should not be asking people to vote while celebrating Holi."

However another reveller said, "Rupa Ganguly has every right to come here and ask for votes.  She is loved by the people and all of them are happy to meet her."

On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress leaders Sovan Chatterjee and Subrata Mukherjee were seen playing Holi with voters in their constituency and even taking selfies with possible supporters. However, both the leaders denied any political linkages to Holi celebration.
