Fifth US-India Cyber Dialogue Concludes With Support For Internet 'Openness'

New Delhi: The fifth India-United States cyber dialogue is reflective of broad engagement of the two countries on important bilateral and global issues, a joint statement by the White House has said. The fifth India-US cyber concluded in New Delhi on Thursday.

"The cyber dialogue is a forum for implementing the framework for the India-US cyber relationship, in particular exchanging and discussing international cyber policies, comparing national cyber strategies, enhancing efforts to combat cybercrime, and fostering capacity building and thus promoting cyber security and the digital economy," the joint statement said.

During the dialogue both sides discussed possible measures to promote bilateral cooperation on law enforcement and cybercrime issues. A mechanism for cooperation, including setting up appropriate sub-groups, was also discussed. Other issues that both sides talked about included the application of international law to state behavior in cyberspace and the development of practical confidence-building measures.

The joint statement also said that the dialogue between the two countries confirms support for the preservation of openness and interoperability, cyber capacity-building efforts, and testing standards with respect to cybersecurity.

The American delegation was led by the US National Security Council senior directory for Cyber Policy Samir Jain. The Indian delegation was led by Santosh Jha, Joint Secretary for Policy Planning and Global Cyber Issues, in the Ministry of External Affairs.
