Srinagar: The father of a young man from Kashmir who was killed allegedly by a senior police officer during clashes after the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani has said his son's body should not be exhumed till a formal complaint is filed against the cop.
The Supreme Court today said the body of 25-year-old Shabir Ahmed Mir should be exhumed on Tuesday for an investigation into how he died, and has asked for a report to be submitted in three weeks.
Bullets and empty shells in his hand, Shabir's father Abdul Rehman Mir told NDTV these were fired by a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Yasir Qadri, which raided their house in Tengpora on the outskirts of Srinagar on July 10.
"Until the FIR is lodged against the DSP, I will not allow the body to be exhumed," said Mr Mir.
The state government challenged the order in the high court and then the Supreme Court, which put on hold contempt proceedings against top police officers who had refused to take action against the accused police officer.
The Supreme Court today examined that report while hearing the state government's petition against the arrest of Mr Qadri.
