Mumbai:
Maharashtra government has proposed a stringent fine against illegal hookah parlours.
"We have proposed to make the offence cognisable, and hike the fine from the present Rs 1,200 to Rs 25,000," Home Minister RR Patil said in the Legislative Council today.
The proposal had been sent to the Law and Judiciary department, he said.
The Minister was replying to a discussion in the Upper House on the law and order situation in the state.
Responding to a question on incidents of thefts at temples, Patil said that it was the responsibility of the temple trusts to install adequate security equipment such as CCTVs to prevent such incidents.
