Kolkata Fire: Huge plumes of smoke were seen coming out from building in Bhawanipore.
Kolkata:
A huge fire broke out at the 16th floor of a high-rise apartment in Kolkata this morning. Ten fire engines are at the spot, trying to douse the flames.
A video clip - apparently shot from across the road - showed plumes of smoke coming out from the building in Bhawanipore area of Kolkata, locked down over COVID-19 amid nationwide restrictions.
"Around 10 fire tender engines have been pressed into service. We have already evacuated people on the lower floors. Rescue efforts are underway," a fire service official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Some people are likely trapped in the apartment complex, he added.
More details are awaited.
