Fighting criticism from the Opposition, the government has agreed to another round of debate on its defence pact with America, called the End User Agreement as well as the India-Pakistan joint statement.
Sources have also told NDTV that the Congress president Sonia Gandhi is backing PM Manmohan Singh, the party is likely to come out with a strong statement of support for the prime minister.
The joint statement with Pakistan and defence pact with the United States, the two high profile events have dominated the debate in Parliament.
On Wednesday, Sonia Gandhi made it clear to her party that the PM should be backed by the Congress in one voice.
The diktat came just before the party gets ready for round two of the debate in Parliament next week when the prime minister will make a second statement.
"There are no murmurs in the party once the PM and the External Affairs Minister clarify. Nothing to add," said Jayanthi Natarajan, Spokesperson, Congress.
Speaking to some MPs, the foreign secretary argued that the joint statement was clear. Whether or not there was dialogue with Pakistan, it would have to act against terrorism.
In a meeting with MPs, the foreign secretary said that the meaning of the Indo-Pak joint statement could not be misinterpreted.
Although he was also quoted as saying that "you can say it is bad drafting but we have made the meaning clear" in response to a question.
This only provided fresh ammunition to the opposition.
"Not only this officer but also within Congress people are not comfortable with this joint statement, the country is not comfortable," said Sushma Swaraj, leader, BJP.
