First swine flu case in J&K confirmed

New Delhi:

Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday confirmed its first case of swine flu. A girl studying MBA in Pune who had come home to Jammu on vacation has been tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Jasbeer Singh, Director Health, Jammu, said, "So far eight suspected cases have come to the medical college in Jammu. In the first case we took the sample for testing and it was negative. That patient had travelled out of the state. Three more cases have come to us, one of them is positive. We have sent four more samples for testing, so a total of eight suspected cases. The reports of four are still awaited."

Meanwhile, swine flu has claimed two more lives in the country. A 62-year-old woman, Saeeda, died at the Noor Hospital in Byculla, Mumbai, and a seven-year-old died in Vadodara, taking the countrywide toll to 10.
