Five men who came to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu allegedly to kill two Hindu leaders have been arrested, the police said on Monday. The arrests on Saturday followed intelligence inputs that the men were in the city to attend the wedding of a convict out on parole.
The police say the men planned to cause communal discord and wanted to target leaders of the Hindu Makkal Katchi. Five sickles have been found on them the police told NDTV.
Even though they have not been called terrorists, the five men have connections with ISIS outfit in Jammu and Kashmir said the police, adding that they had "criminal intentions."
The group was planning to create instability and disrupt communal harmony around Ganesh Chaturthi, on September 13, say investigators.
