Dantewada, Chhattisgarh: Five policemen were killed in a Maoist ambush in Dantewada in Chhattisgarh on Friday.
A 12-member police patrol had gone on bikes to secure an area near the Shyamgiri jungle in Dantewada district over 250 km from state capital Raipur when they were attacked by Maoists.
The Maoists allegedly fired indiscriminately at them and detonated landmines.
In a 45-minute crossfire, five cops were killed on the spot and two were injured.
A police station in-charge was among the personnel killed. The Dantewada district is among the areas worst hit by Maoist violence. In April 2010, at least 60 policemen were killed in the deadliest attack in recent times.
