Fodder scam convict's 18 flats in this apartment building in Bihar to be auctioned
18 flats belonging to one man - a convict in the multi-crore fodder scam of 1996 - will be auctioned in Bihar today by the Income Tax Department.
This is the first step towards recovering some 44 crore rupees that Tripurari Mohan Prasad, the owner of these flats, owes the state. He has been in jail since 2012.
Mr Prasad was a supplier to the state Animal Husbandry Department, which was at the epicenter of the scam. All his flats are in the same apartment complex in Danapur, and are priced between Rs 37 to 47 lakhs.
Residents of the complex say the auction has generated "considerable interest" with many people coming to inspect the flats in the last few days.
Mr Prasad and his relatives also fought a legal battle to stop the auction, but the Patna High Court rejected their petition.
Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav was among scores of politicians, suppliers and officials convicted in the 900 crore fodder scam involving the use of fake bills in the name of cattle fodder to siphon money from the state government.
