Foetuses found in a drain in Maharashtra's Beed
Beed: Maharashtra is notorious for its low sex ratio. And now, in yet another shocking incident, the police in Beed have recovered foetuses in a drain.

Police have filed an FIR against unknown persons and are investigating if these were sex selective abortions.

"On June 9, we got information that a foetus was found near a river body. On June 10 also we found another foetus dumped at the same location. We have registered two different cases; both the foetuses were recovered from the same spot. Investigations are on," said Mirza Baig, a police officer from Ahmednagar.

"I saw a woman dumping a body wrapped in a plastic bag. It was a female foetus. Two or three foetuses are recovered every day from the same location. We are really worried and have informed the police," said Balasaheb Geethe, an eyewitness.

The shocking discovery comes amid concerns that Beed district has 801 girls per 1000 boys while the state's average stands at 883 girls per 1000 boys which is also lower than the national average.
