Bangalore: Nearly three lakh people have bought tickets to watch Narendra Modi at a rally in Bangalore on Sunday, according to the BJP.

The tickets were sold for Rs 10 each but admission is not restricted to ticket-holders, the party claimed.

Sources in the party refused to confirm reports that 20 crores is being spent on the event for its prime ministerial candidate.

"The Congress party spent more than us for Sonia Gandhi's rally in Mandya in Karnataka held recently...the stage will be elaborately designed," said Ashwath Narayan, spokesperson for the BJP in Karnataka.

He also refused to comment on reports that BJP leaders want to publicly gift Mr Modi a piece of jewellery at the rally.

The rally, which is scheduled to begin at 11am, is being held at the Palace Grounds, a large public space in the heart of the city.

Politicians may insist that there's no such thing as a free lunch, but at this event, the audience will have six different counters of vegetarian grub to gather around.

An elaborate puja was held at the Place Grounds a few days ago involving at least a dozen pandits. Top state leaders attended the puja and continue to visit the venue of the rally to personally monitor the arrangements.

Mr Modi last visited Karnataka in April, just before the state voted. He drew large crowds in Mangalore and Bangalore, but the BJP was voted out of power.
