New Delhi:
Ranjan Mathai today retired as foreign secretary and handed over charge to his successor Sujatha Singh.
The 1976 batch Indian Foreign Service officer will have a fixed tenure of two years.
Mr Mathai had assumed charge on August 1, 2011 with a two-year term.
59-year-old Sujatha Singh was earlier ambassador to Germany. She also served as high commissioner to Australia.
