Lucknow:
Former leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Lok Sabha MP Dhananjay Singh has been arrested by the Lucknow police for his alleged role in a double murder case in Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Two people from the Nishad community were murdered in 2010 in the Kerakat village of the Jaunpur district.
Mr Singh, who was taken into custody at his official residence here, was taken to Jaunpur, nearly 250 kms from Lucknow.
Chief Minister Mayawati had already distanced herself from Mr Singh, the MP from Jaunpur, after allegations were levelled against him in the controversial murder of the Chief Medical Officer as also the irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission.
After his arrest, the MP alleged that he was being implicated in a false case by the Mayawati government.
"The government is getting me arrested on false cases and the police has produced no warrant," he told reporters.
