Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh had occupied the bungalow since 1981.
Bhopal:
Senior Congress leader Motilal Vora on Thursday vacated his official bungalow in Bhopal, which was allotted to him as a former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, following orders from the state government.
The BJP government has now allotted Mr Vora's bungalow to Lalita Yadav, who was recently inducted into the state cabinet, with the Congress terming the move as being "politically motivated".
"I don't know why and how Madhya Pradesh cabinet took the decision to get the house vacated.... It was being reported in the media on and off that I have to vacate it," said Mr Vora, who had occupied the bungalow since 1981.
"The state cabinet probably decided that as I was elected from Durg (now in Chhattisgarh), therefore I am not entitled to it, but there is no clarity. They have ordered me to vacate it, so I have done," Mr Vora told PTI.
Earlier, Mr Vora had written to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, asking for six months time to move out. "Yesterday I got a letter stating that six months' period is ending on September 30, so I decided to vacate today itself," he said.
Mr Vora denied the reports that he had an official bungalow in Chhattisgarh, saying he had neither demanded for a house nor was any allotted to him in that state.
Becoming nostalgic, Mr Vora noted that he first came to the house in 1981 as a Minister of State and continued to function from here for six months when he became the Chief Minister.
He did not comment on other former Chief Ministers who were allotted official bungalows.
All the former Chief Ministers are entitled to cabinet-rank facilities including a bungalow and support staff, a senior official said.
Congress leader Mayank Agarwal alleged that as Mr Vora belonged to Chhattisgarh, the facilities given to him in Madhya Pradesh were withdrawn and termed the action as "politically motivated".
Mr Vora, who is the treasurer of Congress, also informed that the party's defunct newspapers National Herald and Navjeevan will be restarted soon.
