Chennai:
Former DMK Minister K P P Samy was today arrested in connection with a case relating to the murder of a fisherman in 2006.
Mr Samy - who was the Fisheries Minister in the last DMK government - was taken into custody from his residence at Tiruvottiyur, police said. His anticipatory bail was also cancelled.
The former minister had come under the scanner following suspicion that the fisherman was abducted and killed.
The fisherman, said to be an AIADMK supporter, was reported missing in September 2006. His family had complained that they suspected the involvement of Mr Samy and his family members, police sources said.
Special teams were formed to investigate the case.
Mr Samy's brothers had surrendered earlier before his arrest.
Meanwhile, DMK boss, M Karunanidhi, dubbed the arrest as a ploy to defame the party ahead of the upcoming civic polls in the state.
