Azamgarh: Sarvesh Singh Seepu, a former MLA and BSP leader was shot dead this morning at his house by six unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh. The attackers after shooting him at point-blank range then fled on three different motorcycles.
Two aides of Mr Seepu were also killed in the attack. Arun Kumar, Additional Director General (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh, said there were reports of firing from both sides. There may have been a past dispute behind the murder, he added.
The police has sent alerts across the district and set by check-posts across highways and arterial roads to nab the attackers. Similar messages have also been sent to neighbouring districts.
There is tension in the area with angry locals demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Many vehicles and shops were vandalised by Mr Seepu's supporters.
