The officer was on deputation to the National Investigation Agency
The National Investigation Agency or NIA has arrested its former top investigator, an IPS officer, who is alleged to have leaked sensitive information to Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Arvind Digvijay Negi, superintendent of police, during his tenure as an investigative officer in the NIA, had shared sensitive information with an over ground worker of Lashkar in Jammu and Kashmir, a spokesman of the Agency said.
During the investigation, the NIA said the role of "AD Negi was verified and his houses were searched".
The officer was on deputation to the NIA for 11 years. The NIA had earlier arrested six people in the case.
"During investigation the role of AD Negi, IPS, SP posted at Shimla (since repatriated from NIA) was verified and his houses were searched. It was also found that official secret documents of NIA were leaked by AD Negi to another accused person who is an OGW of LeT in the case," said the NIA spokesman.
Sources say initial tip off about officers involvement had come from a central Intelligence Agency last year. Negi had allegedly passed on sensitive documents related to some anti terrorist investigations.
He was eventually investigated for espionage, violation of the Official Secrets Act and extortion.
The officer was probing most of the separatist, terrorist and terror funding cases and was regularly visiting Kashmir over the last four years.
The officer had also investigated the case involving J&K police officer Davinder Singh, who is alleged to have sheltered and help escort terrorists in Kashmir. Davinder Singh was arrested when transporting two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists to Jammu and Delhi in January 2020.
The reports that they were planning some attack in national capital still remains a mystery.
Besides other terrorist related cases, Negi had also investigated cases related to top Hurriyat leaders, PDP leader Waheed Parra and cross LoC trade in Jammu and Kashmir.
