An alleged henchman of former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi has been booked for allegedly threatening a Samajwadi Party legislator, police said today.
According to a complaint by Shri Bhagwan Sharma alias Guddu Pandit, the Samajwadi Party legislator from Dibai Assembly, he received a call on his mobile phone yesterday afternoon purportedly by one Santosh Rai who threatened to kill him, Superintendent of Police (SP) City Rajesh Kumar said.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Mr Rai, who is currently lodged in Gorakhpur jail, is a henchman of Mr Tripathi who is serving life sentence in the murder case of poetess Madhumita Shukla in the same prison, the Police officer said.
Mr Rai was booked under section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code last night, he added.
Mr Sharma had been a Central Bureau of Investigation witness in the Madhumita murder case.
