One out of the four wounded policemen taken to the hospital
Srinagar:
Four policemen were injured today in in heavy exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Soura area, on the outskirts of Srinagar, police sources said.
The gunbattle broke out in Ahmadnagar locality of Soura this evening when police cordoned off the area following information about the presence of militants there, the sources said.
They said the militants hurled a grenade towards the security forces injuring the four policemen.
Exchange of fire between the two sides was going on intermittently, sources said, adding, that additional security forces have been rushed to the area.
The attack came hours after the Indian army said it is engaged in an encounter, now in its ninth day, after reports of at least 30 militants infiltrating into Kashmir from Pakistan. The army stopped short of accusing Pakistan army behind the infiltration bid. (
