Jaipur:
Seven children have died at a government hospital in Rajasthan's Ajmer, prompting authorities to start a probe. The families have alleged negligence by doctors.
Five of the children who died at the Jawahar Lal Nehru hospital were new-borns, the others were five-year-olds.
The older children were admitted a with a serious infection two days ago. They were referred from district hospitals, said Dr BS Karnawagat.
The newborns, he said, were kept in ventilators, but they had succumbed to infections.
The babies were from Bhilwara, Merta city, Pisangan, Nasirabad and Beawar. They were suffering from septicemia, premature birth and respiratory problems, said the hospital's Chief Medical Officer Dr K K Soni.
"A committee of three doctors has been formed today to probe the matter and it will submit its report to the district Collector in the evening," news agency Press Trust Of India quoted him as saying.
