New Delhi: The Income Tax Department today carried out searches on the premises of four Uttar Pradesh bureaucrats, including two Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, in connection with its probe on charges of tax evasion.

Several income tax teams covered at least 15 premises of the officers in Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Meerut, Baghpat, Mainpuri and Delhi since early morning, officials said.

The officers against whom the action was taken were IAS officer and Director (Health) Hriday Shankar Tewari, IAS officer and Additional Chief Executive Officer of Greater Noida Authority VK Sharma, his wife and Regional Transport Officer Mamta Sharma, and Special Secretary (Prisons) SK Singh.

The income tax officials said the department has been investigating charges of tax evasion against them. The income tax department had also carried out similar searches on the premises of other Uttar Pradesh bureaucrats last month.
