Guwahati: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today said free wagons will be provided to the Assam government for transportation of essential commodities to flood-affected districts of the state.
In a telephonic talk with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Mr Prabhu said the Railways would provide wagons free of cost for transporting relief materials to the flood-affected districts.
Asking Mr Sonowal to avail the services, Mr Prabhu also said the government could make use of the abandoned railway tracks as a 'platform' for sheltering those displaced by the deluge.
Meanwhile, the chief minister has asked the departments concerned and deputy commissioners of the affected districts to avail the opportunities extended by the Indian Railways.
