Kanpur: A French woman was allegedly molested by a ward boy at a government hospital where she was admitted for treatment, police said on Monday.
The accused ward boy Ranvir Singh was on Monday arrested and an attempt to rape case registered against him, DIG, Kanpur, Hariram Sharma said.
The 20-year-old French national Heather Bates along with her British friend James Hawkins was going to Patna in a train when they both fell ill after consuming some food on the train.
They were then taken to the railway hospital in Kanpur from where they were shifted to the state-run Halet Hospital on Saturday.
Bates, who was admitted to the ICU of the hospital, on Sunday evening, complained to doctors that a ward boy tried to rape her.
The doctors then informed the police about the incident, Sharma said.
According to police sources, the hospital authorities initially tried to suppress the incident and only after Bates threatened to report the matter to the French embassy that the authorities swung into action.
Doctors said the condition of the two was now better and they would be soon discharged from the hospital.
The two foreigners had come on a tour of India.
