Pakistan army today violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region
Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir:
Pakistan army today violated ceasefire along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region, firing at various posts of the Indian Army, according to Army officers.
A defence ministry official said that the Pakistan army used small arms and automatic fire targeting Indian posts; they also used mortar shells to target Indian positions on this side of the LoC. The Indian side retaliated to the fire.
"Pakistani Rangers resorted to small arms firing and mortar shelling along IB in R S Pura sector of Jammu district since 0115 hours today," a BSF officer told PTI.
Five border outposts (BoPs) and some civilian areas in RS Pura and Tawi forward belts were targeted by Pakistani Rangers, firing 81 mm mortar shells around 0350 hours. The officer said, "BSF troops guarding the border line retaliated effectively and the firing exchange continued till 0530 hours today," he said adding four persons were injured in Brewa village.
Earlier this morning, the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in Poonch district by a group of militants trying to enter the Indian side, said officials. The alert troops guarding the border fired upon the militants and foiled the infiltration bid.
Pakistan Rangers had yesterday opened 'sniper fire' on a BSF constable guarding a border outpost along the International Border in Kanachak sector of Akhnoor tehsil in Jammu district, said officials. As BSF personnel tried to evacuate the injured jawan, they came under heavy fire, whereupon they retaliated.
