Chennai:
Twenty-two people have been killed in fresh landslips in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, which has received the season's highest rainfall of 34 cm. The toll now is 35.
Rain-related casualties in Nilgiris district are now 28, where 13 people died in on Monday following house collapse and other rain related incidents.
Coonoor remains cut off due to breaches on the roads.
Many people have lost their lives in Tamil Nadu over the last one week following incessant rain.
Most of these casualties are due to wall collapses and electrocution in the Niligiris, Virudhnagar, Ramanathapuram and Dindigul districts.
Schools remained closed on Monday in Chennai and many districts.
The northeast monsoon set in a week ago and the Met Department has forecast more rain in Kerala, Goa, and karnataka coast, as a depression in the Arabian Sea may intesify.
