Bangalore: In Delhi, some of the country's most senior lawyers have asked for action against him. Now, the Chief Justice of Karnataka is facing a virtual boycott at home as well.
Advocates of the Karnataka High Court say Chief Justice PD Dinakaran should not sit in court till it's known whether he's corrupt.
Dinakaran is among five judges recommended for a promotion to the Supreme Court. He's been accused of having wealth that's disproportionate to his income. Over the weekend, Dinakaran was summoned to Delhi to explain his wealth to senior Supreme Court lawyers. At that meeting, he denied those charges.
But at home, lawyers say they don't want to work with him till the controversy is settled. "We have requested the Honourable Chief Justice not to sit until the allegations are cleared. Then second one - all judges are requested to declare their assets immediately," says K N Puttegowda, president of the Advocates Association.
On Friday, the group of judges will meet in Delhi to decide whether action should be taken against Dinakaran. The Chief Justice of Karnataka has indicated he will wait for their verdict before making any statements.
