Lucknow:
A leader of the Samajwadi Party, already in jail, has been accused of plotting the attack earlier this week against Mayawati's minister, Nand Gopal Gupta.
Dilip Mishra, a block leader of the Samajwadi Party, is current in Agra Jail. The 12 cases against him include his alleged involvement with a triple murder and a double murder. The UP Police believes that he wanted Gupta killed because of "personal and political rivalry." They were also known to be at war over a land deal. Mishra allegedly began planning the attack against Gupta before he was arrested; he fine-tuned his plan from prison.
Two people have been arrested for executing the attack planned by Mishra, who is also related to a Samajwadi Party MLA, Vijay Mishra. The police believes that Vijay was aware of the assassination being planned by his cousin; he has been formally charged with criminal conspiracy.
On Monday, Gupta, popularly known as "Nandi", was injured when a bomb exploded outside his house in Allahabad. Two people were killed. Mishra was headed to a temple near his home when a bomb placed on a moped outside his home was triggered by remote control. Gupta is recovering in a Lucknow hospital.
