New Delhi: The release date of superstar Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar's upcoming film 2.0 may have been postponed from Diwali to January next year. However, the makers of the film have something special in store for the eager fans. According to a report, the first teaser of 2.0 will be unveiled on Diwali. "The film was meant to release during Diwali this year, but they had to push it to next year because of the extensive VFX. But now, the team will unveil the first teaser promo and reveal the look of 2.0 on Diwali. Akshay and Rajinikanth want this to be a gift to their fans, who are disappointed by the film's delay," quoted an insider as saying.
The trailer launch of 2.0 will reportedly be a grand event as it will be released on Rajinikanth's 67th birthday.
"The trailer will be launched amid huge fanfare on Rajinikanth's birthday (December 12). Rajini is worshipped down South and his films are celebrated like festivals. That's why director Shankar wants to give all Thalaiva's fans a gift," an insider told .
2.0 has been directed by S Shankar and produced by produced by Subaskaran Allirajah.
The film, which is a sequel to Rajinikanth's 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot in Hindi), also stars Amy Jackson. Recently, Rajinikanth and Amy Jackson's picture from the sets of the film had gone viral on social media.
Rajinikanth's 2.0 is believed to be India's most expensive film yet, made on an estimated budget of Rs 450 crore.
2.0 has already earned a quarter of its reported budget, according to news agency PTI. The satellite rights of the film have reportedly been sold to Zee Network for Rs 110 crore.
"It's an unprecedented deal. The price of combined Indian satellite rights for the film for all the languages (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu) is Rs 110 crore. We are very happy to associate with Zee Network for the project," Raju Mahalingam, creative head of Lyca Productions, told PTI.
2.0 will release in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously on January 25.
