Full transcript: 'Your Call' with the team of Don 2

New Delhi: Sonia Singh: Good evening and welcome to this special edition of Your Call. It's the festive season and look at what Santa brought us this year. Shah Rukh Khan, have you been a good boy this year because Santa Claus has brought you for the audience, but what are you asking Santa Claus for?

Shah Rukh Khan: Santa Claus only brings bad boys to good girls, so I have this year decided to be really, really bad. And yes, Santa's got me a lot of fun and action, jumping around and driving fast cars, all the male fantasies have come true for me this year

Priyanka Chopra: The badder the boy the gooder the girl.

Sonia Singh: He is talking about male fantasies, what about female fantasies?

Priyanka Chopra: Oh they came alive too, definitely

Sonia Singh: Sadly he said male and female, that worries me, Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan: It's okay we want more audiences and we don't have any gender bias, and as a lady you should agree to that

Sonia Singh: Completely

Shah Rukh Khan:
Absolutely

Sonia Singh: Completely.

Shah Rukh Khan: Well they say comparisons are odious and imitations are the best form of flattery. Forget the cliches, let's just look at some of the Dons that Shah Rukh Khan  has to live up to in Don 2. You are really the male fantasy Shah Rukh

Shah Rukh Khan: See I am telling you ...

Sonia Singh: No, but seriously forget about living up to Amitabh Bachchan, now you have to live up to yourself in Don. How do you go better at Don 2, or worse?

Shah Rukh Khan: No, actually according to me better is the undoer of good. I thought we have done good as Don. I don't think we have tried to outdo Mr Bachchan. Farhan, myself, all of us here are great fans of that film. Thought you know, bring it to the younger generation, allow them to see it once and I think we kind of did it well. We didn't belittle the importance of the original film. Having done that we also came to the realisation that the last five, seven minutes of the last Don, when he says junglee billee is kind of like, so we say okay, if they can like a bad guy winning, let's make a whole film out of it, about a bad guy and he is leaner, meaner, sexier, faster, smarter, he has got better cars, the most beautiful girl.

Sonia Singh: Are you leaner, meaner, sexier, fitter? Are you better than him in this?

Priyanka Chopra: Well that's for you to find out, I can't tell you that.

Shah Rukh Khan: But she does kick my butt in the film. I like that.

Sonia Singh: What's it like to co- star with Shah Rukh Khan Khan?

Priyanka Chopra: As you can tell, you can't ever get a word in edgeways, but being a co-actor with him is incredible. Now saying all that in front of him is embarrassing

Shah Rukh Khan: I can stand behind, gone, now nobody knows.

Priyanka Chopra: But I think he is an institution in himself when it comes to talent.

Shah Rukh Khan: Mental institution.

Priyanka Chopra: And creativity, no, I never say nice things about him now, when I am going to say nice things about him he is not taking me seriously.

Shah Rukh Khan: I get very embarrassed.

Priyanka Chopra: I am not saying anything nice. He is terrible to work with, he does not, no please let me tell you the truth, he only talks, he is always trying to tell people what to do, and when he comes to set he doesn't eat. He has too much energy, he works for some 35 hours, so, everybody has to keep up with that, so that's the truth.

Sonia Singh: Ritesh, Don 2, and tell me why you guys first took on, we know why you took on Don, but then Don 2? Do sequels really work? How do you keep bettering expectations?

Ritesh:
No, it's Don. We were just all of us, Shah Rukh Khan said it is a kind of a tribute to that Don. We always say, we just thought and I think everybody would accept this character. Audiences have accepted him as Don, fooled Roma by making her fall in love with him, put Boman in jail and four new characters in this film

Sonia Singh: Shah Rukh Khan are the dark glasses going to stay on?

Shah Rukh Khan: Yes, unless you want me to look deep into your eyes? Actually my dialogues is for you, Don ka intezaar to gyarah mulko ki police kar rahi hai.

Sonia Singh: But ye glasses?

Shah Rukh Khan: Don ke glasses untarne ka intezaar to sari duniya kar rahi hai, Sonia Singh, lekin Don yeh glasses sirf tumhare liye utaarega. So can I take off my coat also, and the rest of my clothes, is it that kind of a show?

Sonia Singh: It's a family show.

Priyanka Chopra: Boys just said yes, woah

Sonia Singh: Tell me, after Ra One is it fun doing all the moralising, beating up the bad guys? Now you're the bad guy, how do you keep switching?

Shah Rukh Khan: I will be honest with you. I have never liked good guys. I come from a theatre, from a background where we played characters or protagonists. So I do whatever girls like. So I find it, you know initially, when I started working I didn't want to do a college going kid, 'ma, ma main first aaya, ma, ma mujhe naukri mil gayi hai. I tried to avoid it by doing films like Dar and Baazigar. And somewhere along the line it all just fell apart and I did Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, where the character would say 'Baoji sahi kehte hain.' Baoji ki aisi ki taisi. To kya hua agar mujhe tumse pyaar hai? Baoji sahi kahte hain? Nau minute tak main bolta raheta hoon ki 'Baoji sahi kehte hain.' Aur phir finally Baoji ladki detein hain to main ladki leke jaata hoon, nahi to nahi jaata. I really find...

Priyanka Chopra: Sweet words, I really like that, stop it.

Shah Rukh Khan: Even we found Baoji very sweet. I just feel that you know, whatever you're not at times, and which is evil, most of us are really attracted to it. I find this whole idea of evil being mesmerising, evil being like Satan, Silence of the Lambs, and Ka from Jungle Book, and I get really intrigued by it, and I think I like doing it. There is an inert something inside me, which is wanting to come out, which is me, and when I do Don I play him like that. He's little he's a little mesmerising...I don't know, I have no moral justification for the character. There is no redemption for him. I just think it is a story. If you can play really bad, it's quite cool. And while I was shooting Don and Ra One and everything, I was making Don 2 at that point of time. I finished Ra One. I really enjoyed it. And it is really schizophrenic for me to play this really good guy who's going, the ultimate good guy, and the ultimate bad guy. So I am like, a little retarded right now, a little confused right now.

Sonia Singh: I have all these best villains of all times with a question to ask you. So I have with me Prem Chopra.

Prem Chopra: You are an incredible actor and I am a huge fan of yours. Well I have been asked to ask you a question regarding your experience. You have been in Don 2, while I have enjoyed playing negative roles for most of my acting career. Since you are known more for heroic roles, my question to you is, how do you feel getting into my shoes, and which aspect of the villain did you enjoy the most? Teasing the girl, beating the hero or being beaten by the hero? All the best for your picture and God bless you.

Shah Rukh Khan: Thank you, that you sir, of course one of the greatest, greatest actors of all time we have ever had, mujhe abhi bhi line yaad hai,Pyar se mujhe kethein hain Prem, Prem Chopra. That line was amazingly sleazy and fantastic and his greatest moments in cinema have always been ki jab bhi hero inko marne lagta, inhone maafi maangi, mujhe maaf kar do, mujhe maaf kar do, as soon as the hero turns around he would go hahahahaha. I have worked with him in Badshah, had a great time outdoors with him in Hyderabad. The aspect that I like, I can never fill in his shoes, I think very few actors may have been able to, but not at least in my generation. But I truly believe the part that I like is teasing the girl. I like that yeah because in this film also I have got a plus point, that there is no hero to beat me up, so I don't get beaten up. I beat up all the good guys, and I tease Roma. I like that part, you know, otherwise meri movies main hamesha mere aakhon mein dekho, aur mere aur kareeb aao, main tumse bahut pyaar karta hoon, main tumhare bagher jee nahi sakta. In this film its mijhe junglee billiyan bahut pasand hai.

Sonia Singh: Shah Rukh Khan is a hero and Shah Rukh Khan is a villain. How do you prefer it, because there are people who have also said that as a romantic hero he is the ultimate?

Priyanka Chopra: I think he makes bad look really good. I prefer him bad.

Shah Rukh Khan: And she is yet to do a film with me as a hero. I have not done the good guy as yet.

Sonia Singh: Well are you doing romantic movies again?

Shah Rukh Khan: Well yeah I am starting one in Jan. I am called upon to do a film otherwise I always wanted to do action, action films. Now I am a little tired, now I want to hug pretty girls, sing songs and say nice things to them.

Sonia Singh: Okay we are going to open this up for the audience.

Girl 1:Don the first part got a lot of criticism when compared to Amitabh Bachchan's Don. Are you expecting the same for the second part? There is nothing to compare it too but are you expecting some criticism too?

Shah Rukh Khan: Yeah, I am so used to criticism. Even if there is no comparison to anything they will criticize it. No I don't think so. The whole idea was a little different to Don 1. I always believe that classics should be classics, left alone. I truly believe that. But there are certain films, like I have even done Devdas. Of course there isno thoughtin our heads that we will be better that Dilip sahab or Amitji that's blasphemous. But you also feel that these films need to be introduced as a part of cinematic culture to the younger people and we did it with that ideology. This film that has more freedom for the writer, director Farhan Akhtar, for all of us actually. It's kind of our story. Any comparison would be unfounded and if they do, I am okay with it. I think the film will stand the test of audiences liking it on its own and move forward.

Girl 1: Thank you, can I come and hug you, I love you

Shah Rukh Khan:  Of course, that's what matters. That's why I let her ask the question.

Audience member: Your favourite experience at Hansraj College.

Shah Rukh Khan: It's not a nice thing to do, it's a young people's show, young people are watching. I think ragging should be banned. You know some sort of a give and take happens when a newcomer goes into a college and I remember I was picked up by these set of boys from Bihar, from Priyanka's town.

Sonia Singh: UP, UP and Bihar.

Priyanka Chopra: I am born in Bihar, brought up in UP, I have best of both the states, is liyeMiss World ban gayi hai.

Shah Rukh Khan: You're giving her options to make money for a social message.

Priyanka Chopra: I would never charge money for being the brand ambassador of my state.

Shah Rukh Khan: I was kind of teased by these guys in Bihar who were in my hostel. Fine and I did everything they told me to do. Push the coin down my nose, dance like a girl, everything I did. And then they took me to the room and light a matchstick, said you have to put it in one of the orifices which I was not too happy doing. So I got very angry and said main bhi Dilliwala hoon, main nahi karoonga. They said Yeh to dalna hi padega ji, nahi dalenga to phir tu dekhega.

Priyanka Chopra: Don't make fun of our accent.

Shah Rukh Khan:
Not at all, I do it in a more classy way...Sounds more like Gulshan Grover. Gulshan's English accent is actually a Bihari accent, so they kind of got a little angry with me, and the next day while I was in the assembly, these guys came with a knife and they all stood, 'ae idhar aae ji, idhar aao.' I was standing when they took out the knife. I wanted to run actually and this is God's honest truth, I wasn't being macho, I wanted to run. This guy covered my way. The dada, the goonda and he got pushed and the wall behind him and he fell doing a double somersault. And all the other guys said ''aarey, aarey, maaryega mat ji', and I became the hero overnight in the college. So for me after that the Don walk that you see in the film now is actually woh din ka tha, main college main aise hi chalta tha...aur phir all the people from her town all used to walk like that. So that walk is from that day. Chalo aap sab ko asliyat to pata chali gaya.

Sonia Singh: A certain politician wrote to Hansraj College and said that, oh this letter could not have come from Hansraj College. None of the people can speak good enough English, true or false?

Shah Rukh Khan: Who said this?

Sonia Singh: Mani Shankar Aiyar said this to Ajay Maken.

Shah Rukh Khan: Aiyooo

Sonia Singh: He said students can't write good enough English to use words like dichotomous.

Shah Rukh Khan: Ooohhh that hurts Mr Aiyar. I would ask you ...

Sonia Singh: But any other questions? Sorry can you get the mike here?

Audience member: Shah Rukh Khan main bhi Jamia se bhi hoon aur aap Jamia se drop out hain to main poochna chahoonga Jamia se drop out hona aapka life ka turning point hai kya?

Shah Rukh Khan: Nahi actually, I will be very honest. Aaj woh principal sahab rahein nahin Habib sahab. Main woh television serial Fauji shuru kar chuka tha, is liye thodi attendance main takleef thi, jo ki aaj bhi mere film ki shooting main rehta hain.Main library mein pad raha tha Saturday ko, exam was on Monday when Habib Sahab aaye and said 'If I had it in my hands I would not let you take this exam,' and batameez main I said, 'I also would not like to take this exam,' and walked off. My mom took me to his house and said sorry kahon unko. But by then, Sunday ho gaya that aur maine padai bhi nahi ki thi so I told my mom that mein padane aaounga padne nahi. And the turning point of my life was that I was taught by some of the best teachers, because I had finished my course. Though I had not taken my written exam, I did my practicals. Strangely enough I did my audio-visuals in Kolkata, passed most of that, but I think because I did not take my written exam, I had this stupid youthful nonsense in me. I really miss that. I really wish I had taken my Masters. Whatever I know little of film-making, technically I think it started with Mass Communication in Jamia and I would tell everyone, please do not leave your studies ever because if I had, believe you me, I would be such a big superstar.

Boy from audience: First of all Mr Shah Rukh Khan Khan, all hail to you. This is a little bit of a serious question. I am just awestruck by his driving force, I mean with all due respect he lost his parents at a very young age, he did not come from a filmi background, and just the drive in him, he has achieved so much. He is not six feet tall, but he has achieved so much. He is the best actor. Right now, he is at the top of his industry. I want to ask him about his driving force. And if I can meet Priyanka Chopra that would be awesome.

Sonia Singh: Well all that before was just to get to her.

Shah Rukh Khan: Well, do you want to talk about the driving force or just meet Priyanka? It is strange that you should speak about my parents. I am extremely sad. My childhood was here. You ask me a little more, I shall cry, trying to hold back my tears. I drove down here and I used to spend a lot of time at Archana Cinema, 65 paise ka ticket hota tha, and I have come here with my mom and my dad and because they died, I needed to fill in the gaps. I I think I have to work so much so that I could fill in the gaps. I don't wish this for anyone... I used to work so hard so my dad and mom would one day say, woh dekho humara ladka nahi hai haan hai par thoda patla ho gaya hai, so all I like to do is work, work and work. And I get to meet some wonderful people like my producer, like Priyanka here and like Farhan. Those 100 days when I made the film are the most fulfiling days of my life, and I get a chance and allow you to come on stage and say hello to Priyanka, kyunki Don jo bhi chahta hai ho jata hain. You have to kiss my ring finger also because Don Corleone bhi asise.

Boy from audience: Thousands of people consider you their son and you should be proud.

Sonia Singh: We are just going to go across to some questions from viewers from other cities as well.

Questioner 1: My question to Shah Rukh Khan is that if you anticipate Don 3?

Questioner 2: My question is for Priyanka, ma'am it is a great pleasure talking to you, you sang the song Tinka Tinka for Karam so can you please sing it again?

Priyanka Chopra: I actually didn't sing Tinka Tinka I want to get to the point, everybody thinks I sang Tinka Tinka, but actually Alisha Chenoy sang it and her voice is a bit like mine, so is liye and I would have honestly sung it.

Questioner 3: So please hum a line from Don.

Priyanka Chopra:Shaam hai, jaam hai, aur hain nasha, tan bhi hai, man bhi hai, chahyiye hain raingenniyan, phir bhi hai betabiyaan, khu dhadkta hai, dil kyun kehta hai dil, deewanon ko ab tak hai pata. I am sorry.

Shah Rukh Khan: No but let me tell you your tone was really sureela.

Sonia Singh:
Let's go across to Lucknow.

Lucknow girl:
My question is that if you were the hair stylist of our Honourable Chief Minister Mayawati, what makeover would you give her?

Audience member: Hi Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka, my question is that can you please sing Kolaveri Di for us, as I know you're a great vocalist, and can Shah Rukh Khan  dance to it?

Audience member: I would like to ask Priyanka, if you get the opportunity to play Don in the next Don movie would you accept the offer and who would be your junglee billi?

Audience member:  Hi Priyanka, hi Shah Rukh Khan. I would like to ask you, as a girl from La Martiniere what activities did you participate in other than making boys run after you all the time?

Audience member:
Hi Shah Rukh Khan, I love you, I love you and I love you. Can you please say hi to my Dad, he has been following you since Fauji and I think you are just perfect. So my question is for you Priyanka, how do you feel being the female Akshay Kumar of Bollywood?

Priyanka Chopra: How does that happen? Everybody says something to him and the questions are for me?

Shah Rukh Khan:
I want to ask, makeover for Mayawati, all the questions are for me, all the love is for Mayawati?

Priyanka Chopra: It is a very controversial question, makeover for Mayawatiji

Shah Rukh Khan:Mera hairstyle de dena unko, she can be Rahul Gandhi's junglee billi.
Priyanka: Those are not my words.

Shah Rukh Khan:Sonia Singh ji ki junglee billi.

Priyanka Chopra: I don't think Mayawati ji ko makeover diya ja sakta ha. I think she is fine the way she is, let's move onto the next question.

Shah Rukh Khan: The next one was for you to sing Kolaveri Di and for Shah Rukh Khan  to dance to it. See I can dance to Don song.

Sonia Singh: Well I have had Delhi, Lucknow, Bombay. But I also have some spitting images of you to ask questions.

Puppet: Hey Shah Rukh Khan my name is Khan naam to suna hoga? Hey Shah Rukh Khan  I have a question for you. Am I not the coolest actor you have ever met, jawab do mujhe? Tum duniya ke sabse coolest actor ho itna cool I love jungleee billi.

Puppet 2:Kyunko main junglee billi hoon.

Shah Rukh Khan: Lets get the puppets here. Sonia Singh, can we have the Don song for two minutes to dance with them?

Sonia Singh: What are the best pictures and worst pictures for 2011.

Shah Rukh Khan: Dirty Picture. I have heard it is really nice. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Zoya ne bahut acha direct kiya. I did not expect it to be so meaningful plus entertaining

Sonia Singh: Worst picture, be frank you're Don

Shah Rukh Khan: I thought you know sometimes you watch a film and you don't like it. She (his daughter) said it was like life, it kept going on and nothing nice happened. I would not like to say the name...Sonia you thought that film was bad? Oh my God. You are an anchor, and you cannot have opinions like that.

Sonia Singh: I want to ask about a certain superhero film.

Shah Rukh Khan: People were taking it personally with me and I didn't like it and I wish them the worst of futures possible. Some of the critics were very personal about my mid life crisis. Why am I doing this? What am I trying to do? I just want to tell them go to hell or come and talk to me to my face.

Priyanka Chopra: No, that's not fair, why don't we just stick to him (Shah Rukh Khan) 'cos he answers for us, he is the leader of the team.

Sonia Singh: New Year's resolutions?

Shah Rukh Khan: Oh you told us your New Year's resolutions. I am the leader, nobody can ask me, we are going to start 2012, make sure Shah Rukh Khan doesn't smoke.

Priyanka: That was his resolution.

Ritesh: No but we are going to ensure that it happens.

Shah Rukh Khan: Is that your resolution? That you're going to stop smoking? And I want to tell people, because I am in Don 2, because it is a bad thing to do and it is a genuine, not only for my kids and everyone around me and producers and friends, but I should give it up, my best shot because actors normally don't lie, but I will give it my best shot.

Sonia Singh: You guys have been super guests today, but we can't end without some song and some dance, so can we get some music, we will move out and Priyanka, take centre stage. The producer is the real boss, that's after the movie has been released.
