Ghaziabad: The Ganga water supply to Noida, trans-Hindon areas of Ghaziabad and Delhi would remain disrupted Saturday night onwards, an official said in Ghaziabad on Wednesday.
According to R.K. Agrawal, executive engineer, Ganga Water Supply project, the shutters at Haridwar barrage would be closed which would stop water supply in the upper Ganges canal.
"The decision was taken to initiate a cleansing operation of the canal to take out the sand deposited in the belly of the canal," he told IANS.
As per the intimation from the irrigation department, the shutters would be downed on October 22 on Dussehra day but the water supply would continue till October 24 midnight.
Thus, the water supply to Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi would be adversely affected October 24 night onwards.
"Normally the cleansing takes a week but the irrigation department at Meerut has not given the exact time. It may vary one day from the scheduled time. But the local administration has to be ready to meet this eventuality and we have informed the local administration", the official added.
