Mumbai:
Gangster Santosh Shetty, who had been deported by the Mumbai police, was recently arrested in Bangkok, said Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil in the state Assembly. He has been remanded to police custody till August 17.
Shetty, who had many cases of extortion against him, was arrested by the Mumbai Crime Branch in Bangkok, on Thursday, and brought to Mumbai. He is a wanted accused in the murder of Farheed Tanasha, a close aide of gangster Chotta Rajan. Tanasha was killed in June last year
Shetty is also a wanted accused for the murder of lawyer Shahid Azmi. Azmi, who was representing Fhaim Ansari, an accused in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, was gunned down, allegedly, by Chotta Rajan's men last year.
Shetty used to be Chotta Rajan's aide, but had formed his own gang recently.
