Indore: A 19-year-old girl, who was allegedly set on fire by three of her college-mates for resisting rape, died on Sunday morning at a hospital in Indore.
According to the police, the gruesome incident happened on Saturday, when three of the victim's college-mates paid her a visit at her residence. When they realised she was alone at home, they allegedly tried to rape her.
When the victim resisted, they allegedly set her on fire.
She suffered 97 per cent burns and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In her statement to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, recorded at the hospital, the victim stated that when she resisted her college-mates' rape attempt, the enraged men set her on fire.
The victim, a student of pharmacy from Khargaon near Indore, succumbed to her burn injuries on Sunday morning.
The three accused have been arrested.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem to ascertain if the victim was raped.
