Lakhimpur: A 14-year-old girl was killed when a tiger attacked her in Mailani range under South Kheri forest division, forest officials said.
The incident occurred yesterday when Saraswati had gone to graze cattle in Suwabojh block, they said.
The tiger, hiding in the bushes, pounced upon her when she went deep into the forest area and dragged her.
Her mother raised an alarm and called some other villagers for help. Following the alarm, the big cat left the girl and ran away.
The girl, who sustaining serious injuries in her head and other parts of her body, died after the attack.
Forest officials extended monetary relief to the family. Officials have advised the villagers not to venture into the forests which had presence of wild animals.
