New Delhi:
Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has appealed to Anna Hazare to give up his fast since it has succeeded in "awakening the nation and rattling the government".
In a letter to Mr Hazare on Wednesday, Mr Thackeray said that there was no need for him to stop the anti-corruption agitation but only end the fast in view of his failing health.
"After giving up your fast, you ask your colleagues Kejriwal, Bedi, Sisodia and others to sit on fast and continue the agitation," he said.
Mr Thackeray reminded Anna that his well being was more important for the struggle ahead.
"You have put your life at stake for a great cause, but it should not end up taking your life and helping your enemies in this struggle. Hence, this heartfelt appeal. The nation has been awakened by your fast which has left the government rattled," he said.
"So, look at your failing health and give up the fast. The agitation will continue even after you end your fast," Mr Thackeray added.
The Shiv Sena chief said he was asking Mr Hazare to give up his fast on behalf of Maharashtra.
"I do not know the political benefit or loss. It is not my nature to keep account of such things. Your life is important for the struggle ahead," Mr Thackeray said.
