Goa:
"I can't sleep at night, I keep thinking of her..." Sapna Rodrigues breaks down as she describes her 16-year-old daughter who was found strangled and burnt on Monday night in South Goa.
Evita, a student at an open school in Caranzalem, near Panjim, left home Monday evening. She told her mother she was headed to school. When she didn't return home, Sapna Rodrigues reported her missing daughter to the police. A few hours later, she was asked to identify a body that had been found at Verna in South Goa. Sapna says she recognized her daughter's clothes and hair.
The two men arrested for Evita's death include a friend of the teenager's, who called her mobile phone often. Both the men arrested have criminal records and were involved in a robbery last year.
According to police sources, the arrested duo are possibly linked to murders of three other women. They also indicated that robbery could be the possible motive behind the murder.
This week, 10 bodies were found all over Goa in a span of just four days. Among them, a couple who seem to have committed suicide by drowning, and a family of four who were allegedly killed in an attempted robbery.
Sixteen-year-old Evita is among three women whose bodies were found burnt. Is this the work of a serial killer? The police refuses to comment on this. Officers also do not indicate whether the two men arrested for Evita's death could be involved in the other murders.
