Panaji:
Goa Congress president Luizinho Faleiro today slammed senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh for tweeting that the Congress needed a "major surgery" and not introspection to revive its flagging electoral fortunes.
"I wish he had suggested it in the party's internal forum," Mr Faleiro said.
Soon after the Thursday poll results stunned the Congress, Mr Singh tweeted: "Today's results disappointing but not unexpected. We have done enough introspection, shouldn't we go for a major surgery?"
The tweet came shortly after Congress president Sonia Gandhi promised introspection over the party's electoral losses.
Mr Faleiro said introspection was necessary for any party rooted in popular aspirations.
"Any party that is growing, which is alive to the people's aspirations, has to do introspection at every stage and take necessary action. If you do not introspect and take necessary action you are a dead party," Mr Faleiro said.
Asked whether the Goa state unit too required a "major surgery" ahead of the Assembly elections, Mr Faleiro said: "I do not know what surgeries you are taking about."
Assembly polls in Goa are likely to be held early next year.
