Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant won the election from his traditional Sanquelim seat. He said he's confident the BJP will form government in the coastal state.
He said the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) is in touch with the BJP to provide support to reach the majority mark of 21 in the 40-member assembly.
The BJP said it has support of three independents.
After trailing in the initial rounds, Mr Sawant managed to retain the Sanquelim seat by a margin of 666 votes.
Mr Sawant also said his reduced victory margin was certainly a cause of concern and he would be introspecting on it. In the 2017 assembly polls, Mr Sawant won by a margin of over 2,000 votes.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the people of Goa for reposing their trust and love in BJP Goa and believing in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) & the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi ji," Mr Sawant posted on Koo.
The BJP is leading in Goa with 19 seats, early trends show. As at 4:05 pm, the Congress came behind with 12 seats. The Trinamool Congress got 3 and the Aam Aadmi Party also 3.
