Goa revenue minister booked for attacking legislator

Panaji: Goa revenue minister Jose Philip D'Souza was booked on Wednesday for assaulting party colleague and legislator Fransisco Mickey Pacheco, police said.

Various offences including unlawful assembly and assault have been lodged against D'Souza, who is also NCP's Goa Unit president, DSP Rohidas Patre said.

A non-cognisable complaint was also registered against Pacheco for bribing voters in the run up for the municipal polls, police said.

Both the legislators engaged in a brawl in a restaurant at port town of Vasco, 40 km away from here, on Tuesday night.

Supporters of both the NCP MLAs have filed complaint against each other.

Pacheco had claimed D'Souza assaulted him in the restaurant when he was having dinner with the friends.

He said that the attack was unprovoked.

Earlier in the day, NCP state unit had an emergency meeting to discuss the issue.

NCP's state coordinator Praful Patel met both the aggrieved legislators separately and heard their views.

NCP Goa spokesman Trojan D'Mello said a detailed report would be submitted to the party high command over the issue so that the corrective measures can be taken.

"We want that such incidents should not re-occur," D'Mello said.
