Gorkha leader Madan Tamang murder case: Five accused arrested
Darjeeling: Five men accused in the murder case of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League (ABGL) leader Madan Tamang were arrested by the Central bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Darjeeling early today.

The main suspect, Nicole Tamang, is however still absconding.

The Gorkha League leader, who was also a Gorkhaland proponent, was murdered at a party rally in Darjeeling on May 21, 2010 in full public view. He was allegedly attacked by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters.

Nicole Tamang, the main accused, has been on the run since August 2010, when he escaped from the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha or GJM has been fronting the movement to demand that a separate Gorkhaland state be carved out of West Bengal. But Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not in favour of this.

GJM is opposed to ABGL since it sees itself as the sole representative of the Gorkhaland demand.
