New Delhi:
Call it the Rahul Gandhi effect or maybe it was his Niyamgiri visit which did the trick. The natives of mining affected areas could be in for some good news.
The Group of Ministers(GoM) headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has given a go ahead to the draft Mining Bill.
The Bill seeks that miners share about 26 percent of profits with local people who get affected by their projects. A move that has been strongly opposed by the industry.
However, the final draft of the Bill will be sent to the Cabinet soon. The new bill has proposed that a fund be created and the beneficiaries be paid out from it.
