New Delhi:
Union Health Minister J P Nadda today said the government was open to the idea of setting up more world-class medical facilities like the Sports Injury Centre at the Safdarjung Hopsital in New Delhi , and asked the SIC to improve its standards of institutional delivery and service.
He was speaking at fifth Foundation Day ceremony of the SIC.
The centre is unique in being a public-private model of partnership, a first under the Union Health Ministry where the investigative tests and management is under private firms while the government contracts the doctors and support staff.
"The government is open to the idea of setting up more such centres across the country," Mr Nadda said.
The Union minister also asked doctors and medical staff at the SIC to introspect and analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the facility and develop a long-term vision for its growth and excellence.
He said that SIC which has gained national acclaim should continue the good work and improve the standards of institutional delivery and service.
"This centre is coming up very well creating an opportunity for the medical professionals to leave a mark in the field. But then there are threats too. As the number of patients increase, the delivery of medical care and its administrative capacity has be improved too likewise," he said.
The Health Minister also assured that the government will offer all support and help that is required.
Mr Nadda also inaugurated the Vacusport machine, a high- performance rehab equipment for accelerated tissue treatment post surgery at the centre.
Established in 2010 under the leadership of Dr Deepak Chaudhary to cater to the needs of sportspersons, SIC is the only dedicated sports centre of its kind in the country, which provides world-class treatment for sports injuries.
Former Indian left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi and former woman cricketer Anjum Chopra were also present on the occasion.
