Anna Hazare had been on an indefinite fast in Ralegan Siddhi in an attempt to get the Lokpal Bill passed in Parliament
Lok Sabha today passed the Lokpal Bill amid continuous din. Rajya Sabha had passed the bill yesterday despite pressure from the Samajwadi Party (SP).
In Ralegan Siddhi, an atmosphere of celebration and victory could be seen as people waved flags. Anna Hazare who has been fasting for the past nine days for this cause spoke a few words before breaking his fast.
"People should stay off-camera to work for the country. Lokpal bill was passed in Rajya Sabha yesterday and it was passed in Lok Sabha today. We are happy that it was passed", he said.
Anna thanked the select committee for keeping people's views in mind and modifying the bill accordingly.
"Other than those from Samajwadi Party, I salute all MPs in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha for giving us this anti-corruption law", he added.
Anna also said, "the Lokpal Bill had been lying in the Rajya Sabha for the past one year. Congress and BJP initiated a movement and everyone supported the Bill. Today political parties passed the bill for the good of the people and I request the government to frame appropriate laws."
