New Delhi:
The government will work to clean the Ganga river, and ensure perennial flow in the river, President Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday.
"River Ganga is a part of our rich cultural heritage, a symbol of faith and the lifeline for millions," Mr Mukherjee said while addressing the joint session of both houses of parliament.
"However, Ganga continues to remain polluted with many stretches of the river becoming dry in the lean season. My government will take all necessary steps to ensure a perennial, clean and pristine Ganga," Mr Mukherjee said.
Mr Mukherjee also said that conservation of the Himalayas is also a priority area.
"Conservation of Himalayan ecology will be a priority area for my government. A National Mission on Himalayas will be launched," he added.
