New Delhi:
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi today; the meeting comes in the backdrop of a bitter war of words between the chief ministers of these two states.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) have accused each other of foul play, in what is being called the cash-for-vote scandal; a legislator from Mr Naidu's party was arrested last week.
But Mr Narasimhan made no mention of the controversy, "We have passed one year after the bifurcation. How things are going about there. Agenda of development," he said.
Mr Naidu met PM Modi yesterday and reportedly demanded a probe into the alleged tapping of his phone.
Mr Rao's Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has accused Mr Naidu of playing a role in the alleged bribery attempt by Revanth Reddy, a legislator of his Telugu Desam Party (TDP), to Elvis Stephenson, a nominated MLA, to influence his vote in the state legislative council elections.
"If he does like that (tries to arrest me) then it will be the last day for his government," Mr Naidu told NDTV in Delhi on Wednesday.
Mr Rao responded by terming Mr Naidu as only a guest Chief Minister in Hyderabad; Telangana government has only extended the courtesy as Mr Naidu doesn't have an office in his state.
It was on June 2 last year that Andhra Pradesh was formally split to create the new state of Telangana, both chief ministers are working out of Hyderabad. Vijaywada will be the next capital of Andhra Pradesh, while Hyderabad will remain as Telangana's capital city.
