The Home Ministrysaid a large number of foreigners were stranded at different airports in Indiadue to cancellation of flights on account of volcanic eruption in Iceland.
"To avoidhardship to such legitimate foreign travellers, it has been decided to allowspecial landing permit or extension of visa to them for a maximum period of 14days without charging any fees," it said in a statement.
Such powers forextension of visa or issue of special landing permits can be exercised byimmigration officers not below the rank of Inspector posted at the airports.
Flights to the UK andother European destinations remained cancelled for the sixth consecutive daytoday in the wake of huge clouds of volcanic ash emanating from Iceland.
